Monthly Potluck (and Timebank)

Expired

When: The next Pot luck is SUNDAY 31st August at 4pm with a Timebank meetup at 3pm

Where: Please join us at The Waa! Club (http://waaclub.nz), 183 Bridge Street, Nelson 7010

What: Bring along food to share, a plate and cutlery if you can or just come along (there has always been plenty to eat and we'll have some plates, cutlery etc if you need them.).

Why: Share food and conversation with people in your community and get to know each other a bit better. That's it.

Yes, that's right, our monthly potluck is moving to the last Sunday of the month (next Sunday 31st this month) and at an earlier time (4pm). Friday's are often difficult for people with clashes with other events. It's also difficult if you're working to prepare anything to bring and, especially when the days have been short, it's been cold and dark. By having it at 4pm, it doesn't break up the weekend too much but it's early enough that we still have daylight.

We're going to have this month's potluck at the Waa! again (http://waaclub.nz, 183 Bridge St., Nelson) which worked really well last time (thanks to the Waa! team). With the start of Spring next month, this will be the last Winter potluck so the default, depending on the weather, will be to hold the potluck back in the park where we can also have games and other activities.

In addition, a small group of us have been discussing the idea of setting up a local time bank. The idea of a timebank fits nicely with the aims of 'Not-a-Robot' of connecting people in our community and getting to know each other better. While there have been attempts to set up timebanks in Nelson in the past they have generally run out of steam. However, there are successful ones running in Auckland (https://timebankauckland.nz/) and Wellington (https://www.wellingtontimebank.org.nz/) for example and we've been in touch with those. We aim to get together an initial motivated group to help create and support a timebank tailored for Nelson and to ensure that it will be sustainable. With the cost of living affecting many people, sharing the skills and resources in our local community could really help. In addition, we'll create a local circular economy connecting people to each other and building community resilience. If you're interested in getting the timebank off the ground, or you just want to know more, please come along at 3pm.

Please share this invite to your networks and anybody you think might like to join us and if anybody would like to be added to the mailing list please get them to email me (similarly if you don't want to be on the mailing list just let me know). Everybody is welcome.

This is a child friendly event (for the timebank meetup too - there are plenty of games etc. at  Waa! if you want to bring children along) and as always, bring food and/or (non-alcoholic) drinks to share if you can, it doesn't have to be a lot and if you don't have time or the means, just come along, there is always plenty. Bring a plate/bowl, cutlery and cup if you can (we'll have some if you can't or you forget).
